正統辭源壆認為,spiv(黃牛)可能來自於羅馬尼亞語spiv(麻雀)或英國圆行spif(纨绔子弟、紈褲后辈)。

Don't pin your faith on his promises; he is known to be a spiv.(不要信任他的承諾,年夜傢皆晓得他是個騙子。)

Following one of the most controversial presidential elections in United States history, newly elected president George W. Bush gave the following inaugural address on January 20, 2001,中法翻譯, in Washington, D.C. After thanking his opponent in the election, Democratic vice president Al Gore, “for a contest conducted with spirit and ended with grace,” the Republican Bush went on to echo many of the themes of his campaign, including his philosophy of “passionate conservatism.(溫情守旧主義)” President Clinton, distinguished guests, and my fellow citizens, the peaceful transfer of authority is rare in history, yet mon in our country. With a simple oath, we affirm old traditions and make new beginnings.

As I begin, I thank President Clinton for his service to our nation.

And I thank Vice President Gore for a contest conducted with spirit and ended with grace.

I am honored and humbled to stand here, where so many of America's leaders have e before me, and so many will follow.

We have a place, all of us, in a long story—a story we continue, but whose end we will not see. It is the story of a new world that became a friend and liberator of the old, a story of a slave-holding society that became a servant of freedom, the story of a power that went into the world to protect but not possess, to defend but not to conquer.

It is the American story—a story of flawed and fallible people, united across the generations by grand and enduring ideals.

The grandest of these ideals is an unfolding American promise that everyone belongs, that everyone deserves a chance, that no insignificant person was ever born.

Americans are called to enact this promise in our lives and in our laws. And though our nation has sometimes halted, and sometimes delayed, we must follow no other course.

Through much of the last century, America's faith in freedom and democracy was a rock in a raging sea. Now it is a seed upon the wind, taking root in many nations.

Our democratic faith is more than the creed of our country, it is the inborn hope of our humanity, an ideal we carry but do not own, a trust we bear and pass along. And even after nearly 225 years, we have a long way yet to travel.

While many of our citizens prosper, others doubt the promise, even the justice, of our own country. The ambitions of some Americans are limited by failing schools and hidden prejudice and the circumstances of their birth. And sometimes our differences run so deep, it seems we share a continent, but not a country.

We do not accept this, and we will not allow it. Our unity, our union, is the serious work of leaders and citizens in every generation. And this is my solemn pledge: I will work to build a single nation of justice and opportunity.

I know this is in our reach because we are guided by a power larger than ourselves who creates us equal in His image.

And we are confident in principles that unite and lead us onward.

America has never been united by blood or birth or soil. We are bound by ideals that move us beyond our backgrounds, lift us above our interests and teach us what it means to be citizens. Every child must be taught these principles. Every citizen must uphold them. And every immigrant, by embracing these ideals, makes our country more, not less, American.

Today we affirm a new mitment to live out our nation's promise through civility, courage, passion, and .

America, at its best, matches a mitment to principle with a concern for civility. A civil society demands from each of us good will and respect, fair dealing and forgiveness.

Some seem to believe that our politics can afford to be petty because, in a time of peace, the stakes of our debates appear small.

But the stakes for America are never small. If our country does not lead the cause of freedom, it will not be led. If we do not turn the hearts of children toward knowledge and , we will lose their gifts and undermine their idealism. If we permit our economy to drift and decline, the vulnerable will suffer most.

We must live up to the calling we share. Civility is not a tactic or a sentiment. It is the determined choice of trust over cynicism, of munity over chaos. And this mitment, if we keep it, is a way to shared acplishment.

America, at its best, is also courageous.

Our national courage has been clear in times of depression and war, when defending mon dangers defined our mon good. Now we must choose if the example of our fathers and mothers will inspire us or condemn us. We must show courage in a time of blessing by confronting problems instead of passing them on to future generations.

Together, we will reclaim America's schools, before ignorance and apathy claim more young lives.

We will reform Social Security and Medicare, sparing our children from struggles we have the power to prevent. And we will reduce taxes, to recover the momentum of our economy and reward the effort and enterprise of working Americans.

We will build our defenses beyond challenge, lest weakness invite challenge.

We will confront weapons of mass destruction, so that a new century is spared new horrors.

The enemies of liberty and our country should make no mistake: America remains engaged in the world by history and by choice, shaping a balance of power that favors freedom. We will defend our allies and our interests. We will show purpose without arrogance. We will meet aggression and bad faith with resolve and strength. And to all nations, we will speak for the values that gave our nation birth.

America, at its best, is passionate. In the quiet of American conscience, we know that deep, persistent poverty is unworthy of our nation's promise.

And whatever our views of its cause,越南語翻譯, we can agree that children at risk are not at fault. Abandonment and abuse are not acts of God, they are failures of love.

And the proliferation of prisons, however necessary, is no substitute for hope and order in our souls.

Where there is suffering, there is duty. Americans in need are not strangers, they are citizens; not problems, but priorities. And all of us are diminished when any are hopeless.

Government has great responsibilities for public safety and public health, for civil rights and mon schools. Yet passion is the work of a nation, not just a government.

And some needs and hurts are so deep they will only respond to a mentor's touch or a pastor's prayer. Church and charity, synagogue and mosque lend our munities their humanity, and they will have an honored place in our plans and in our laws.

Many in our country do not know the pain of poverty, but we can listen to those who do.

And I can pledge our nation to a goal: When we see that wounded traveler on the road to Jericho, we will not pass to the other side.

America, at its best, is a place where personal responsibility is valued and expected.

Encouraging responsibility is not a search for scapegoats, it is a call to conscience. And though it requires sacrifice, it brings a deeper fulfillment. We find the fullness of life not only in options, but in mitments. And we find that children and munity are the mitments that set us free.

Our public interest depends on private , on civic duty and family bonds and basic fairness, on uncounted, unhonored acts of decency which give direction to our freedom.

Sometimes in life we are called to do great things. But as a saint of our times has said, every day we are called to do small things with great love. The most important tasks of a democracy are done by everyone.

I will live and lead by these principles: to advance my with civility, to pursue the public interest with courage, to speak for greater justice and passion, to call for responsibility and try to live it as well.

In all these ways, I will bring the values of our history to the care of our times.

What you do is as important as anything government does. I ask you to seek a mon good beyond your fort; to defend needed reforms against easy attacks; to serve your nation, beginning with your neighbor. I ask you to be citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens, building munities of service and a nation of .

Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.

After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: “We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?”

Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.

We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.

Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.

This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.

God bless you all, and God bless America.

President Bush Meets with Prime Minister Balkenende of the Netherlands - 英語演講

June 5, 2008

PRESIDENT BUSH: Mr. Prime Minister, thanks for ing back. I enjoyed being with you. You represent a great country. You're a good friend of the United States of America. And I appreciate -- appreciate our candid discussion of a variety of issues.

First, I want to thank you and your folks for helping the people of Afghanistan realize the blessings of liberty. There's -- we're engaged in a struggle against ideologues who use murder to achieve their political objectives. One way to help defeat those folks and marginalize them is to help others realize the blessings of a free society. I appreciate your courage, and I appreciate your troops. But the people of Afghanistan appreciate them more.

We had a good discussion on a variety of issues. We talked about the need for -- to continue our close cooperation on a series of issues. I appreciate very much your concern about the people in the continent of Africa, your concern about people needlessly dying because of HIV/AIDS. I share those same concerns with you.

Talked about pleting the WTO round, the Doha Round. The Prime Minister and I both agree a world that trades freely is a world that is a more hopeful world, and certainly a way to help people grow out of poverty.

And we talked about the climate issue. I assured him that the United States is concerned about the issue. We're concerned about being dependent on oil, and the two happen to go hand in hand. We've developed a strategy to encourage the advent of new technologies that will change our habits; at the same time allow us to empower our economy in a way that will help us be good stewards of the environment,英譯中. I want to thank you for your candid discussion on that.

Relations, bilateral relations with our countries are very strong and very good, and I can't thank you enough for ing. Wele.

PRIME MINISTER BALKENENDE: Mr. President, thank you very much for the hospitality and the friendship. It is true what you're saying about the bilateral relations between the United States and the Netherlands; they are very good. And also next year we have the 400-year celebration of the fact that Henry Hudson came, on behalf of the Dutch East Indian pany, to Manhattan.

PRESIDENT BUSH: That's right.

PRIME MINISTER BALKENENDE: And they'll be d, and just an example of the long tradition we have.

At this moment we're working together, and you referred to that, by example, in Africa, in the struggle against HIV/AIDS we are working together. We also are working together on the issue of deforestation in Latin America. There will be a meeting in Suriname in September, and we are supporting that event. And thanks for your remarks about our cooperation and the activities of our military people in Afghanistan. It's necessary to work together.

Of course, when you are friends, sometimes there are issues you do not agree about, but because you have a friendship, then you can talk about finding solutions and talk about critical aspects. We also talked about the European Union, and I'm convinced that the United States and the European Union share the same values. You talked about it: freedom, human rights and democracy, economic dynamism, sustainable development. And I think we -- if we work together, we really can make a difference,德文翻譯. And I think it's necessary.

So I'm really looking forward with the new administration also to have good cooperation between the European Union and the United States.

It was also important what you said about the role of multilateral channels, the United Nations, but also we talked about the NATO. And it's important to make progress on the issues of climate change and energy. We have so many things in mon.

So I want to thank you very much for the hospitality, the cooperation. You know, there are really close ties between the people of the United States and the Netherlands. And I'm sure that will continue in future. And when we talk about these issue -- important issues like human rights, freedom, democracy -- we have really a mon responsibility.

I wish you all the best. I presume this will be the last time here in the White House when you're in office. I wish you all the best, and thanks again for the hospitality.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Thank you, sir. Thank you.

END 2:17 P.M. EDT

翻譯:Dog and pony show 商品展现

My pany asked me to do a dog-and-pony show about the new product in the exhibition next month.(公司讓我下個月在博覽會上做一個新產品的展现,逐字稿。)

My dear Teachers, fellow students and friends: Good afternoon.
As we all know, the earth is a planet almost covered by water, and it is water made every thing on the earth lively.Water is also one of the important part of our environment.Though,is there really so much water for us to clean,to produce many things,to play with? how much water are there on the earth then?
Most of the water is in the oceans or locked away as ice.The largest volumes of fresh water are stored underground as groundwater, imagine there is only one barrel of water in the world, then there is only a spoon of it on the land, and the water we can use is only a drop of it.Now I have to remind all of you here that the single drop of water is never as Clean as before,it has been polluted severely by our human beings.
There is a very beautiful river in Paris. It is the Seine,it runs across the City, people drink coffee, chat on the bank in the day,同聲傳譯,at night, they enjoy the beautiful scenery in the boat, songs from the river fly into the Sky made the river more attractive, the Seine is a famous symbol of France;on the west coast of pacific ocean there lies the modern City Shanghai, another river which used to be a very important transportation route runs through the center of the city,菲律賓文翻譯中文,people respected and regard it as"mother".It is the"suzhou river, but l believe that few of you would sit beside it,people will be scattered by the terrible smell of water when walk by.I have to say it is extremely dirty!

  1.《Streetcar Named Desire》——《

  2.《Face Off》——《变脸》

Both teams are ready to face off;准备与某人争辩或竞争:The candidates are preparing to face off on TV tonight.

  3.《Romantic of Three Kingdoms》——《

He is a romantic who longs for adventure。

I'm not ready for a romantic relationship.

Hemingway's romance with his nurse inspired him to write 'A Farewell to Arms'.

  4.《It Happened One Night》——《

以下是一些常见的调情英语:调情(flirt)、邂逅(meet each other by accidence)、一夜情(a one-night-stand)、热恋(fall in love)、分手(split-up or break up)、重逢(come across)、艳遇(bump in each other,指没有预期地见到某人,还可以说have affairs with somebody,这种用法一般专指外遇。)

  5.《Midnight Cowboy》——《

  6.《Playing By Heart》——《

  Playing by heart

By heart 等同于 off by heart,这个词条前面可以添加各种动词,例如play music by heart,意味着某人对整首音乐铭记于心,演奏时候无需察看乐谱。 I’ve dialed the number so many times I know it by heart. She’s learnt the whole speech off by heart.

  7.《Farewell My Concubine》——《

  8.《Ashes of Time》——《东邪西毒》

  9.《In the Mood for Love》——《

  In the mood for love

You are in the mood for something,意指你想做什么事,或者想拥有什么东西。

Brett has just returned from a trip to Iceland. He’s filling his sister Helen in on the details.

Helen:So, Frosty, how was your trip to the frozen north? Meet any other snowmen?

Brett:That shows what you know. Iceland may be chilly, but it's one of the hottest places in Europe.

Helen:I have heard it’s become a popular tourist destination. Reykjavik is trendy with a lot of globetrotters nowadays.

Brett: I'm not talking about its popularity. I'm talking about the ground temperature there. Iceland’s full of hot springs.

Helen:Hot springs in Iceland? What are they like?

Brett:They're amazing! The Blue Lagoon is a mineral-rich seawater lake heated by lava. It's near a power plant outside Reykjavik, and it’s absolutely spectacular.

Helen:It's near a power plant?! Thanks, but I'll pass. I'd like to have children someday.

Brett:That's what I thought at first, too. But it actually turns out that the water in the lake is considered healthy. It has a high content of salt and silica3, and they say it can help cure skin problems like psoriasis and eczema.

Helen:I think I’ll stick to my bathtub. Besides, Iceland’s a long way from here.

Brett:Suit yourself, but you’re missing out on the best bath in the world!

揹字典的時候,按開頭字母(Z,Y,X,Q,J,K,U)(V,W,N,O,L)(FG,IT,HM,BDE,R)(C,P,S,A)的順序揹,其中C,P,S,A每個都要分三部分揹。

1、You know — one loves the sunset, when one is so sad…

2、If someone loves a flower, of which just one single blossom grows in all the millions and millions of stars, it is enough to make him happy just to look at the stars. He can say to himself, “Somewhere, my flower is there…” But if the sheep eats the flower, in one moment all his stars will be darkened… And you think that is not important!

3、Flowers are so inconsistent! But I was too young to know how to love her…

4、For she did not want him to see her crying. She was such a proud flower…

5、It is of some use to my volcanoes, and it is of some use to my flower, that I own them. But you are of no use to the stars.

6、My flower is ephemeral, and she has only four thorns to defend herself against the world. And I have left on my planet, all alone!

7、The people have no imagination. They repeat whatever one says to them… On my planet I had a flower; She always was the first to speak…

8、His flower had told him that she was only one of her kind in all universe. And here were five thousand of them, all alike, in one single garden!

9、I thought that I was rich, with a flower that was unique in all the world; and all I had was a common rose. A common rose…

10、To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world.

11、The wheat fields have nothing to say to me. And that is sad. But you have hair that is the color of gold. Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me! The grain, which is also golden, will bring me back the thought of you. And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheat.

12、Men have not more time to understand anything. They buy things already made at the shops. But there is no shop anywhere where one can buy friendship, and so men have no friends any more.

13、It is your own fault, I never wished you any sort of harm; but you wanted me to tame you... but now you are going to cry! Then it has done you no good at all!

14、It has done me good, because of the color of the wheat fields. Go and look again at the roses. You will understand now that yours is unique in all the world.

15、You are beautiful, but you are empty. One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passer-by would think that my rose looked just like you – the rose that belongs to me. But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses: because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is she that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose.

16、And now here is my secret, a very simple secret. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eyes.

17、It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.

18、Men have forgotten this truth. But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose…

19、Only the children know what they are looking for. They waste their time over a rag doll and it becomes very important to them; and if anybody takes it away from them, they cry…

20、As for me, if I had fifty-three minutes to spend as I liked, I should walk at my leisure toward a spring of fresh water,

21、The stars are beautiful, because of a flower that cannot be seen.

22、What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well…

23、The house, the stars, the desert – what gives them their beauty is something that is invisible!

24、What moves me so deeply, about this little prince who is sleeping here, is his loyalty to a flower – the image of a rose that shine through his whole being like the flame of a lamp, even when he is asleep…

25、The men where you live, raise five thousand roses in the same garden – and they do not find in it what they are looking for. And yet what they are looking for could be found in one single rose, or in a little water. But eyes are blind. One must look with the heart…

26、The thing that is important is the thing that not seen… It is just as it is with the flower. If you love a flower that lives on a star, it is sweet to look at the sky at night. All the stars are abloom with flowers…

27、My star will be just one of the stars, for you. And so you will love to watch all the stars in the heavens... They will be your friends.

28、All men have the stars, but they are not the same things for different people. For some, who are travelers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems. For my businessman they were wealth. But all these stars are silent. You – you alone – will have the stars as no one else has them…

29、In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night… You – only you – will have stars that can laugh…

30、And when your sorrow is comforted time soothes all sorrows you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure… And your friends will be properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will say to them, “Yes, the stars always make me laugh!”

31、You understand… It is too far. I cannot carry this body with me. It is too heavy. But it will be like an old abandoned shell. There is nothing sad about old shells…

32、You know, it will be very nice. I, too, shall look at the stars. All the stars will be wells with a rusty pulley. All the stars will pour out fresh water for me to drink… That will be so amusing! You will have five hundred million little bells, and I shall have five hundred million springs of fresh water…

33、You know – my flower… I am responsible for her. And she is so weak! She is so naïve! She has four thorns, of no use at all, to protect herself against the world…there now – that is all…

34、And no grown-ups will ever understand that this is a matter of so much importance!

Boy,7,killed by Ejection From Cockpit of Navy Jet(The Washington Post)
Standard English:A Boy,7,killed by Ejection From the Cockpit of a Navy Jet
Chinese Population Is Put at 1.3 Billion(International Herald Tribune)
Standard English:The Chinese Population Is Put at 1.3 Billion

Joblessness Still a Problem(China Daily)
Standard English:Joblessness Is Still a Problem
Forecast of Mexican quake accurate, but ignored(Science News)
Standard English:The Forecast of Mexican quake is accurate, but it is ignored

Kings,sheiks rap USSR,US(China Daily)
Standard English:Kings and sheiks rap USSR and US
Anne and baby are well(South China Morning Post)
Standard English:Anne and her baby are well
Far fewer pitclosures and job losses likely than rumored(The Times)
Standard English:There are far fewer pit closures and job losses likely than have been rumored

Spinning out of orbit(Time)
Standard English:(The Spacecraft)Is Spinning out of orbit
India Mending Fences(China Daily)
Standard English:India Is Mending Her Fences

Economists told China's programme unchanged(China Daily)
Standard English:Economists are told China's programme is unchanged
Japan:Skilled Hands Needed(International Herald Tribune)
Standard English:Japan:Skilled Hands Are Needed

Florida Freeze To Increase Area Produce Prices(The Washington Post)
Standard English:Florida Freeze Will Increase Area Produce Prices
Pope to visit Japan in February(The New York Times)
Standard English:Pope will visit Japan in February

US Marines, launching a daylight helicopter operation from ships offshore, rescued 59 Americans on Sunday from the Liberian capital of Monrovia to protect them from what the White House said was imminent danger in that war torn nation.

The White House...

———International Herald Tribune
